7 Things You Can Do 2 Become a Better Leader

Posted: 30 December 2009 in LEADERSHIP

1 Do What You Can

Don’t wait for everything to be perfect. You have a unique contribution to make. Make sure that you make it. Start Now – Then Improve! Start where you are and do everything you can with whatever you have. It will be enough.

“This is the true joy in life, being used for a purpose recognised by yourself as a mighty one.” George Bernard Shaw

2 Have Huge Dreams

Be creative. ‘Think different!’ and see things differently. Cling to your dreams whatever happens in your world. Never let go of a dream until you are ready to wake up and make it happen. Be prepared to work to make things happen.

Remember “When you focus on your vision, magic happens!” KMG

3 Choose Your Attitude

Be positive, confident, patient, ready, self-disciplined. Before we can lead others we must be willing to manage ourselves – and our attitudes.

“Attitudes are nothing more than habits of thought, and habits can be acquired.” Paul Meier

4 Get to Know Yourself

Integrity is bringing who you are to what you do. Identify your true self, your values and priorities and make sure that your words and deeds always align.

“The simple reality is that there are no perfect lives or perfect people for that matter, but each of us is unique and irreplaceable.” Justice Frank Vincent

5 Understand Your Influence

It has been calculated that even the most introverted person will influence more than 10,000 people over a lifetime. Understand that you are influencing people, for good or not, every single day of your life. You are already leading people. Ask yourself whether your example is leading people where you would have them go? Use your influence. Be the example you would choose to be – learn, grow and accept responsibility.

6 Have Great Expectations

Leaders guide other people by their expectations. They challenge, change and extend people out of their comfort zone. No-one needs a guide to stay put. You can become a better leader by having great expectations of others, as well as of yourself.

“People tend to become what the most important people in their lives think they will become.” John Maxwell

Have great expectations for the people you work with and who work for you, and even more so for the people you love and live with, and who live for you.
7 Pay The Price

Do whatever it takes – learn, listen, labour, encourage, inspire, enthuse and most importantly empower.

It has been said that there is no limit to what you can achieve if you are willing to give someone else the credit. True leadership requires commitment. It often has more to do with the price we are willing to pay than the rewards we receive.

“I will get ready and then perhaps my chance will come.” Abraham Lincoln
